CBT for Pregnancy, Perinatal and Postnatal.
CBT for Mothers and Partners
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has emerged as a vital tool in addressing perinatal and postnatal depression, anxiety and child birth trauma.
Pregnancy and childbirth are transitional times for parents, and they can also bring about significant stress and emotional challenges. For some individuals, the journey through pregnancy and childbirth can result in traumatic experiences that impact their mental well-being. CBT offers a structured and evidence-based approach to addressing these challenges, providing individuals with the skills and strategies needed to navigate their emotions and thoughts effectively.
CBT interventions during the perinatal period focus on reducing the impact and developing coping strategies of this emotional and challenging period.
By working with a specialist perinatal therapist and a trauma therapist, individuals can learn to manage their emotions, and develop a sense of empowerment in their journey to motherhood and parenthood.
During pregnancy, many parents to be may experience anxiety about childbirth, concerns about their changing bodies, or worries about their ability to parent. Others may have experienced past mental health difficulties and these may re-appear during or after pregnancy.
Birth trauma is more common than it is thought it can affect mothers and birth partners, and some individuals may have difficult experiences during childbirth. These experiences can have effects on mental health, leading to conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
