Sources of CBT Information
There are various sources to find explanations or definitions of Online CBT Therapy. If you decide to search information it is important to find reliable sources. The two links below and the video are the ones that I recommend to my clients, prior starting treatment.
Beck’s institute description of CBT: ” is a time-sensitive, structured, present-oriented psychotherapy directed toward solving current problems and teaching clients skills to modify dysfunctional thinking and behaviour”.
A. T. Beck was the pioneering therapist to bring the concept of CBT in USA, and other areas CBT is also known as Cognitive Therapy (CT). The terms are used interchangeable in the literature. So what better source to explain what CBT is.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists definition of CBT says ” It is a way of talking about how you think about yourself, the world and other people, and how what you do affects your thoughts and feelings. CBT can help you to change how you think (‘Cognitive’) and what you do (‘Behaviour’). These changes can help you to feel better. Unlike some of the other talking treatments, it focuses on the ‘here and now’ problems and difficulties. Instead of focusing on the causes of your distress or symptoms in the past, it looks for ways to improve your state of mind now”.
The Royal College of Psychiatrist provides a very thorough explanation and it helps to understand What is CBT?. I have always signposted my clients to read the site after our first session. So please read their site prior to contact me so you can begin to make an informed choice.

Some of us find easier to watch and listen explanations of things. Mind Mental Health Charity has made this video explaining what CBT is, and in my opinion it is great. Their website has a lot of resources or information that you may find useful.
I like this video because it highlights the importance in deciding if CBT is right for you.
